Mountain Rescue

Mountain Rescue @ Gloucester Academy
(Social, Emotional, Mental Health support)

At Gloucester Academy we will ensure that every child will be safe and will be supported through intervention and culture to ensure every child develops a sense of security, confidence, competence and resilience.

With our support and diligence, all students will be given the support they need to overcome their barriers and reach the same ambitious outcomes and expectations of excellence. Students will be able to talk about the intervention they receive and feel that, regardless of their needs, they have the tools to excel.

No student will be left behind, or forgotten.

Moving more for your mental health

Movement is a vital way to improve and maintain good mental health and it is one of the only a few strategies that can be proven by data to prevent poor mental health.

As little as 15 minutes a day has been shown to positively impact mental health. The more you do the better you feel!

At Gloucester Academy we provide students with numerous opportunities for movement, this includes transitioning between lessons, following line ups and during social times. There are also multiple opportunities at break time and lunchtime to take part in sport.

All students at Gloucester Academy experience elite PE, which is an additional hour of sport in which students are exposed to a variety of sports and competitive fixtures.

Why is movement good for your mental health?

  • Improved mood
  • Reduced anxiety
  • Increased confidence
  • Improved sleep
  • Increased social connections
  • Improved self-esteem
  • Improved memory and concentration

Team Around the Child

‘TAC’ meetings take place weekly to ensure that students who are struggling to be successful in their climb up the mountain - this may be socially, emotionally, academically or behaviourally.

Bi-weekly TAC meetings take place, split by Key Stages, to ensure that the child who is being discussed at TAC has access to the correct support and appropriate interventions in school. Data around the child is discussed (Attendance, Lates, RFL referrals and Suspensions) and a Mountain Rescue profile is created.

This profile supports the assess, plan, and do cycle of Gloucestershire’s Graduated Pathway and highlights specific needs, interventions for these needs and desired outcomes.

Where to access support

For students who struggle with feelings of worry, anxiety or have experienced difficulties currently or in the past; it can be really scary to ask for help and access support that is given. Due to this, our Mountain Rescue support ensures early intervention for students who really need it.
