Gloucester Academy

Special Education Needs and disabilities

Gloucester Academy prides itself on its ability to offer and successfully deliver a full KS3 and KS4 curriculum that is inclusive to all our students including those with SEND.

The GLT SEND Policy, which applies to all Greenshaw schools, can be found here

Our SEND team works very closely with all the teaching staff, as a result, we are able to support children with a wide range of academic, physical, and social needs who can follow a KS3 and KS4 curriculum. Support is always within the mainstream classroom to ensure all students are fully included in the school's learning experience. This ensures all students are taught inclusively by subject specialist teachers teaching at KS3 and KS4 level. Further support may be in the form of classroom-based support or small group Maths and English support. To ensure all student are educated inclusively and have full access to a broad and balanced curriculum Gloucester Academy does not withdraw students from lessons to deliver long term interventions, this ensures all students can attend all their sequenced curriculum lessons delivered by our subject specialist teachers ensuring they are equipped to climb their personal mountains to the very best universities and employment. Further interventions are considered during tutor time or requested and arranged via a personal budget using external agencies conducted outside of the schools teaching hours for students with EHCPs.

The school maintains very close working relationships with children, staff, parents, and other agencies. Indeed, partnership with parents is of the utmost importance. We encourage parents to discuss progress regularly with class teachers and with our special educational need’s coordinator.

The school is proud of its ability to support children with a variety of special educational needs and has taken steps to ensure that all our students are treated equally. As a result, the school is suitably equipped to deal with a wide range of individual needs. The school and the governing body regularly review its provision for children with special needs and ensure that its staff are well prepared and trained.
